For the second time in his collegiate career, senior forward Alexander Ray of the King's College men's ice hockey team has received the great honor and privilege of representing his home country of Sweden in the 2025 FISU World University Games.
The Hasselby, Sweden native is in his fourth season with the Monarchs, but this will be his second appearance on Team Sweden in the World University games after joining the team in the 2023 World University Games in Lake Placid, New York. This time, Ray earned the esteemed honor of Assistant Captain for the 2025 team.
Ray has appeared in 72 career games with the Monarchs, totaling 21 points on six goals and 15 assists off 95 shots, including three power play goals.
"It's always special being able to represent your country in these kinds of events," said Ray. "I'm very excited for the opportunity to go and play over in Europe again."
This year's games will take place in Torino, Italy, the birthplace of the FISU Games, for the first time since 2007 and are set to begin on January 13 and run until January 23. Ray is set to depart to join his team on January 8 ahead of their first Men's Preliminary Round contest on January 12 against Kazakhstan. Their remaining Group A contests feature match ups with Czechia on January 14, Canada on January 16, and the Republic of Korea on January 17. The playoffs begin on January 19 with the quarterfinal match ups, and the medal games will take place on January 22.
