King’s College today welcomed more than 225 high school students and 30 local businesses for a morning of workshops and games as part of an annual event dedicated to inspiring local youth to pursue a future in technology.
The King’s College CIS Day—now in its fifth year—is part of a broader effort to build a strong local talent pipeline by giving students a firsthand look at working in the industry and introducing them directly to top employers in the region.
The event started with students hearing testimonials from college professors and current CIS college majors who provided meaningful insights into education paths and the tech industry.

Guests then played a Monopoly-inspired game with students asking company representatives about career opportunities, company culture, and tech innovation. Students earned “Monarch Moolah” based on their questions that they exchanged for prizes. They could also earn bonuses from fun activities like an IT-themed escape room and code word games.
Geisinger, Banco Dental, WBRE/WYOU, the Pennsylvania Department of the Auditor General, Berkshire Hathaway GUARD, Mohegan Pennsylvania, NBC Universal, Procter & Gamble, and ADP Inc. were among the employers in attendance. Partner high schools included Pittston Area, Wilkes-Barre Area, Wyoming Area, Crestwood, and Abington Heights.
“It is incredibly rewarding watching students connect with professionals, ask meaningful questions, and start envisioning themselves in these careers,” said Shirley Yanovich, program director and technical professor of CIS at King’s College. “By partnering with area high schools and businesses, we are helping students imagine a future in tech—and giving them the tools and connections to make it a reality.”
