King's Hosts 1st Round of NCAA Division III Football Championships

On Sunday evening, the packed Burke Auditorium erupted with a round of applause as the King's College football team and members of the King's community received word that they would be hosting the first round of the NCAA Division III Football Championships at McCarthy Stadium on Saturday, November 23 at noon. The Monarchs will take on Ursinus College, an at-large selection, out of the Centennial Conference.

The NCAA Division III Football Committee announced today the field of 40 teams for the 2024 NCAA Division III Football Championship. Teams were selected based on conference results and NCAA Power Index (NPI). Twenty-eight conferences received automatic-qualifying berths, including King's from the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC). The remaining twelve at-large berths were awarded to teams from the institutions that did not win an automatic berth.

After dropping their non-conference match up in week one, the King's (9-1, 9-0 MAC) football team went on a tear to go undefeated in MAC play at 9-0 to claim their first MAC title since 2002 and the MAC's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. The Monarchs will prepare for their first trip to the NCAA Tournament since their Sweet 16 appearance in 2002.

The Ursinus College Bears (9-1, 5-1 Centennial) won their first six games of the season before losing their lone contest in the 2024 season to #20/#23 Johns Hopkins on October 26, 16-7, in Collegeville. The Bears then took care of business, winning their last three to secure the at-large bid and their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1999.

The winner of the opening-round match up in Wilkes-Barre will take on Salisbury University on Saturday, November 30.
