King’s Tuition Aid Program for Local Families Earning Less Than $50,000 Expanded to Transfer Students

Transfer students are now eligible for the King’s College Luzerne and Lackawanna Education Opportunity (LLEO) program, which covers tuition and fees for local students from families that earn less than $50,000 per year.

LLEO covers the remaining tuition and fees for eligible students after their financial is applied through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The program has already helped more than 150 students since it first launched for the Fall 2023 semester.

Transfer students will be eligible for LLEO starting in the Fall 2024 semester.

“There is no doubt that LLEO has been crucial in helping many of our students overcome their economic circumstances and pursue their dreams through higher education,” said Chris Dearth, vice president for enrollment management. “Given how much cost factors in a transfer student’s decision, we want them to know that no matter what year they start at King’s, they will still be eligible for this program if they need it.”

Full-time students are eligible if they have graduated from a high school in Luzerne or Lackawanna County and have been accepted to King’s College as a first-time or transfer student. Applicants must also have filed their FAFSA by May 1, 2024 and have a total parent income of $50,000 or less as reported on the FAFSA.

LLEO applies the federal Pell grant, the Pennsylvania State Grant, and the Federal Direct Subsidized Loan as determined by the FAFSA application before covering remaining tuition and fees. Designed to primarily aid local students, the LLEO Program does not cover housing, meals, or books.

Students must renew their FAFSA each year and continue to meet eligibility requirements to stay in the program.

Interested students can apply for admission to King’s College and submit their FAFSA using King’s College code 003282, through which students will be identified for the program. Families can learn more about eligibility and requirements at www.kings.edu/LLEOprogram.
