Former Football Standout Damon Saxon Named MAC Hall of Fame Inductee

An exciting honor was announced to the King's College community on Monday morning as the football program's great Damon Saxon has been inducted into the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Hall of Fame as a member of the Class of 2024.

Saxon joins nine other honorees with this current class in the MAC Hall of Fame's 13th induction class. He also becomes the 11th individual in King's history to join the MAC record books since its inception in 2012. He joins Mary Beth Bowler-Chambers (2012), women's basketball; Larry Danko (2013), wrestling; Corey Dickerson (2014), men's basketball; Steven Wilson (2015), football; Jess Harvey (2016) softball; Joanne Polakoski (2017), women's basketball; Ned McGinley (2017), wrestling; Lindsay Sabo-Gonzalez (2018), field hockey & lacrosse; and Mari Valonis (2021), and Mitch Marcks (2022), wrestling.

The standout running back had a senior season for the ages. In the 2000 campaign, Saxon led all of NCAA Division III in rushing yards, running for 1,744 yards for an average of 174.4 yards per game. Those totals remain as the best in Monarch football history, while he appears at the top of the single-season records in touchdowns with 21, third in yards per carry with 6.2, and fourth in rushing attempts with 281. Saxon also helped a team effort that won its 2000 ECAC Southeast Bowl game against Ursinus with a 45-20 victory over the Bears.

With his senior year performance, Saxon collected numerous honors to conclude his career. He was named MAC Player of the Year and a First Team All-MAC selection. At the regional level, he was an ECAC Regional All-Star and Football Gazette NCAA Regional All-Star First Team honoree. Additionally, Saxon brought in national accolades as a Melberger Award Finalist for Division III National Player of the Year, Football Gazette Division III First Team All-American, D3football.com All-American First Team selection, and a Hewlett-Packard Division III First Team All-American.

In single game efforts, Saxon holds the record for yards in a regular-season game with 289 and ties for first with four touchdowns at Hartwick while ranking second with his 76-yard run from scrimmage against Lycoming and fifth with his 44 attempts in the Hartwick contest. For his career, Saxon finished fourth all-time with 2,670 rushing yards and second with 28 touchdowns.

King's will plan an in-person presentation of the MAC Hall of Fame award to Saxon at a later date.
