Presidential Awards
In 2025, King's College established three President’s Awards to be given out at the annual Red & Gold Gala. These awards celebrate individuals and organizations whose generosity, leadership, and lifelong dedication have profoundly strengthened King’s College and its broader community.
Philanthropic Award
The Philanthropic Leadership Award celebrates an individual who has demonstrated exceptional generosity and commitment to advancing the mission of King’s College and/or their community through philanthropy. This award recognizes a passionate supporter and community engager whose contributions—both financial and personal—have significantly enhanced opportunities for students, faculty, and the broader college community, ensuring a lasting and meaningful impact.
2025 Recipient: Timothy J. Morris ’64
A 30-year member of the King’s College Board of Directors, Timothy J. Morris ’64, has contributed to the Monarch community in a variety of ways. Tim was keynote speaker for the first McGowan School of Business Forum held in New York in October 2005. He was the first recipient of the Rev. James Lackenmier, C.S.C. Award for Achievement and Leadership in 2014. Along with David A. Schankweiler ’81, Tim co-chaired the King’s College Send Us Forth campaign, a five-year $50 million comprehensive fundraising campaign that was the largest in the institution’s history and ran from 2018 through 2023. The campaign exceeded its goal by more than 13 percent.
Tim graduated from King’s with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics. In 1967 Tim began his investment career with Dean Witter and Co. From 1975 until 1986 he served as a portfolio manager and later head of the Endowment and Foundation asset management division for Bank of New York. He left Bank of New York to become the president of the Portfolio Group Inc., the New York subsidiary of Chemical Bank. When he arrived at the Portfolio group, the assets were 1.8 billion, which grew to $11 billion during his tenure.
Tim left Chemical Bank in 1994 to return to asset management with highly regarded Bessemer Trust as their Senior Managing Director and Chief Investment Officer where he was responsible for the Investment Department -- Equity, Fixed Income, Research, and their alternative investment program. From 1994 until his retirement in 2006, assets grew from $10 billion to $55 billion.
Tim has generously supported various King’s and Holy Cross initiatives over the years, enhancing the College's impact on its students and community at large. He is a sometime artist and most-time golfer, dividing his year between California and New Jersey. He has two accomplished daughters and five accomplished grandchildren.
Organizational Excellence Award
The Organizational Excellence Award honors an organization or institution that has exemplified outstanding leadership, innovation, and dedication to strengthening their community and whose values and mission align with those of King’s College. This award is given to a business, nonprofit, or community partner that has made a transformative difference through its collaboration, advocacy, and commitment to excellence, helping to elevate the community they serve.
2025 Recipient: McCarthy Tire
McCarthy Tire Service is a family-owned and operated commercial tire company that has served the transportation and manufacturing industry for almost 100 years. It's the 5th largest independent commercial tire dealer in the US with 80+ locations and 13 retread manufacturing plants that cover nine states along the east coast.
Joseph J. McCarthy founded the company in 1926 in Wilkes-Barre, PA, a city still considered home and the site of our corporate headquarters. Joseph’s son, John “Jack” D. McCarthy Sr. (’57) joined the family business at the age of 12, starting as an oil bottle cleaner. He steadily rose through the ranks, becoming president in 1968. Jack’s children, John D. McCarthy Jr. (’86) and Kathleen “Katie” McCarthy Lambert (’83), joined the company in the 1980’s. Gary Lambert Sr. and Neil Horn, husband of Mary Ellen McCarthy Horn, joined the family and became very involved with the business, rising to VP positions in various segments. In 1997, John D. McCarthy Jr. took over as president and Katie became CFO. Joe Doyle (’86) joined the executive team leadership and became COO in 2016. This team led the company in significant growth that expanded the company’s footprint to what it is today.
Currently, the fourth generation of the McCarthy Family is actively involved in the company’s operations. Colleen Horn Doyle, General Counsel, Gary Lambert Jr (’10) Vice President of Purchasing, Daniel Horn (’11) Vice President of Sales, Mary Kate Lambert Henry (’12) Human Resource Manager, Tim Lambert (’15) Corporate Controller, John D. McCarthy III, Regional President. They are learning the ropes from the ground up, just like the generation before them.
Jack and his wife Cece were very involved in the Wilkes-Barre community serving on local boards and donating their time to many nonprofit organizations throughout the Wyoming Valley. They embedded in their children, Mary Ellen McCarthy Horn, Katie McCarthy Lambert and John D. McCarthy Jr, the same strong dedication to their church, local nonprofit organizations and civic groups that help meet the needs of our community.
Lifetime Achievement Award
The Lifetime Achievement Award honors a King’s College alumnus/alumna whose lifelong dedication and extraordinary contributions have left an enduring impact on King’s College and its community. This award recognizes a leader whose vision, service, and commitment have helped shape the institution’s legacy, embodying the values of excellence, integrity, and service that define the College.
