Student Groups and Pastoral Support
"Where two or three are gathered in my name, there I am in the midst of them." Matthew 18:20
Campus Ministry helps the King's College community gather in fellowship and support. Small groups and retreats provide students the opportunity to lead each other in faith and serve as ministers to other students. In addition, the Campus Ministry staff are trained professionals who are willing to provide pastoral support and assistance to all students, staff, and faculty members. The Office of Campus Ministry is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and any member of the team can be reached through the Switchboard at (570) 208-5900.
Student Groups
Student Ministry Leadership Team
Leaders of the different faith-based groups and communities on campus gather regularly to support each other, pray together, and coordinate activities on campus. Working together, the Student Ministry Leadership Team helps foster student faith life on Campus.
Sisters-in-Faith and KingsMen
Sisters-in-Faith and KingsMen provide opportunities for our female and male students to discuss matters of faith and life that are unique and important to them. Supported by Campus Ministry, Sisters-in-Faith and KingsMen are student-led and guided by mentors from around campus.
Knights of Columbus
The Saint Andre Council (#5966) is King's College Chapter of the Knights of Columbus.
Champions for Christ
Student-athletes at King's College are invited to pray for each other and grow in virtue through Champions for Christ. Weekly meetings and words of support help our Monarch student-athletes develop their spiritual lives while competing athletically.
Anchor Faith Challenge
The Anchor Faith Challenge is a four-week effort to help small groups of students engage their interior life. Through daily commitment, mutual accountability, and connection to the wider community, students develop practices that will keep them anchored here at King's and beyond. Contact Br. Jimmy Henke, C.S.C. to learn more about the Anchor Challenge.
Student Retreat Teams
Campus Ministry facilitates multiple single day and overnight retreats throughout the academic year so students can step away from their daily lives to pray, reflect, and grow. Each retreat is led by a group of students who grow together as a team before leading the retreat participants. If you are interested in being part of a retreat team, contact Fr. Brogan Ryan, C.S.C. at broganryan@kings.edu.
Pastoral Support
The College experience brings with it many new and exciting questions and opportunities, but also different challenges and changes. Campus Ministry staff are available to accompany and support students, faculty, and staff through these experiences. The Office of Campus Ministry is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and any member of the team can be reached after hours through the Switchboard at (570) 208-5900.
Adjustment and Loneliness
It is no secret that coming to college can be a lonely experience. Many students find it difficult to meet up with friends who hold the same values and interests. Sometimes it is important to know that someone cares when homesickness seems to overwhelm you. Know that a friendly face and a willing listener is just a phone call away.
Grief and Loss
Often the pain and disorientation experienced at the loss of a loved one through death or separation can be overwhelming. It can be difficult to understand the feelings associated with grief such as poor appetite, difficulty sleeping, crying for no reason at all, loneliness, or a sense of apathy. The Campus Ministers can meet you at any time to help you process your feelings and to help you draw on the resources within yourself and at the College.
When You Are Ill
Being away from home and experiencing an illness can be overwhelming. Whether you are hospitalized or spending a few days in your room with the flu, a Campus Minister is willing to visit.
Need to Talk
Sometimes it is simply necessary to have a confidential conversation with someone who cares. Keeping feelings of anger or disappointment bottled up inside can never be a good thing. The Campus Ministers bring a wealth of experience and friendship to young adults who need to chat. Fr. Brogan Ryan, C.S.C. can serve as a Confidential Resource in matters involving Title IX on campus.
Vocation Decisions
College years can be very challenging for young adults. Questions about one's faith are often stirred as college students examine their own lives in relation to what they learn in the classroom. God continues to call young men and women to a variety of vocations such as marriage, single life, or religious life as a priest, brother, or sister. Know that you can always chat with a Campus Minister about where you think God may be calling you.
Questions About Faith and the Sacramental Life
Some students find that coming to a Catholic college encourages them to think in new ways about their faith and spirituality. In others, it stirs within them the desire to answer Christ's call to receive the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, Penance, or First Eucharist. Others are planning to marry soon after graduation. Campus Ministers are willing to discuss what you may be feeling about the reception of one of the sacraments.
