The Hispanic and Latino Excellence Center sponsored by the McGowan Fund offers valuable educational services to King’s students as well as youths, and families throughout and the surrounding area. This effort was first made possible in 2006 with generous funding from the McGowan Charitable Fund, which was founded by William G. McGowan, a 1952 graduate of King’s College and the founder of MCI Telecommunications.
Led by a dedicated outreach team working alongside student and faculty volunteers, the program offers the following services:
Biweekly afterschool tutoring at Daniel Flood Elementary School in conjunction with King’s College Education
Weekly Pathways to College high school mentoring program
High school Summer Residential Enrichment Program
Bimonthly Pathways to Success middle school program
Weekly adult English as a Second Language (ESL) program
The outreach team also assists students who are enrolled at King’s College through the Spanish for Heritage Speakersprogram (Core/Spanish 147) in conjunction with King’s CORE Curriculum requirement for Foreign Languages and Cultures.
