Study Abroad
King’s College offers students in all majors the opportunity to study abroad in more than 60 countries. We also bring the world to campus via innovative virtual programs and collaborations. At King’s, students mature into fervent global citizens through unique faculty mentoring in short-term programs, semester study abroad, and international research and internships, all while practicing intercultural skills, making new friends, and building resumes.
Why Study Abroad?
Every good program choice begins with these central questions: why do you want to go abroad? Who are you as a college learner and what are your academic, professional, and personal goals? Study abroad can propel your academics and career to new heights. So, spend some time thinking on these questions! Study abroad can help you to:
- Immerse yourself in another culture, perhaps another language, and improve your intercultural proficiency
- Take courses which can be better comprehended in a particular location (e.g., history in the Balkans or environmental science in the Amazon)
- Challenge yourself to develop confidence, independence, flexibility, self-reliance, and critical thinking skills that will make you more employable
- See the world by traveling extensively and inexpensively as courses allow
Study Abroad Programs
Short-Term Faculty Led
Faculty-led programs are an affordable, easy way to access study abroad and to fulfill core and major requirements. For one, all-inclusive flat fee students attend pre-departure workshops, travel for approximately 3 weeks, complete tailored assignments, and receive 3 King’s credits. The language of instruction is English.
Summer Study
Students can elect to take classes abroad during the summer months for 3-8 weeks with one of our partner organizations. The summer months are a great time to experience another culture, get international work experience, and/or complete necessary coursework.
Semester Study
Semester study abroad programs allow students to have a more in-depth and often transformative immersion experience. There are a variety of program models in our offerings – from foreign universities to American colleges with overseas centers. We recommend that you come in for an advising appointment in the Office of Study Abroad so that we can help you find the program that fits for your needs.
International Internships
Many students complete a 3 or 6 credit academic internship during their summer or semester study abroad programs. Internships help you to clarify your goals and build your resume and skills. Internships can be done virtually or in-person and are available in many fields including Advertising and PR, Sports Management, Philanthropy, Business, Data Analytics, Game Design, Education, and more.
Virtual Exchange
Our office is committed to helping all students taste the global dimensions of their academic fields of interest. To study “e-broad” look for on-campus courses with a COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning) component, which means that you will be connecting with a class abroad as part of your coursework. The Office of Study Abroad can also advise you on opportunities to take virtual classes and remote internships offered by our study abroad partner schools.
