Services & Policies
Cell Phones
Please silence your cell phone when in the library. Use either of the two lobbies if you need to use your cell phone.
Library Visitation Policy for Guests of King's Students
To ensure an atmosphere that is safe and conducive to study, and to protect the privacy rights of all Library patrons, the Corgan Library has established the following visitation policy for guests of King's students:
1. Students may have a guest accompany them in the library during the following approved hours: Monday-Sunday, 8 a.m. to midnight. Visitation is not allowed when the College is closed for holidays and semester breaks.
2. To gain access to the library, students and guests must enter through the Lane's Lane entrance. Guests must sign in and out at the security desk and leave a valid form of identification which will be returned when the guest signs out. Any ID card erroneously left with a desk attendant will be held for 24 hours at the desk of Security Switchboard. From there, it is forwarded to the Office of Campus Safety and Security in Ryan Hall. It can be reclaimed there by the ID owner during normal College business hours.
3. The guest must comply with all college policies and remain with the King's student they are visiting at all times. The King's escort will be held strictly accountable for the guest's behavior for the duration of the visit.
Food and Beverage Policy
To protect library materials and keep the building insect-free, foods and drinks are not allowed in the library.
Tobacco Policy
Chewing tobacco, smoking, and vaping are not permitted in the Library.
Wireless Access

All currently enrolled King's College students, faculty, administration and staff have borrowing privileges. Other borrowers must register at the Circulation Desk to obtain library cards. Lost cards should be reported immediately to avoid fraudulent borrowing. Collection Development
The development and growth of the library collection is a cooperative effort. Users are encouraged to participate in this process by recommending materials using the Book and Media Purchase Request Forms found on the Faculty page. For information about the library's Collection Development Policy and questions concerning the process of requesting materials, please contact the Library Director.
Microform Readers, Printers, Copiers, Scanners, and Fax Machines
A coin-operated copy machine is located on the main floor near the Circulation Desk. The microform reader/printer is located in the Reference department and only accepts dimes. Charge per exposure for each machine is ten cents.
The copy machine also functions as a scanner and fax machine. The scanning function will send a PDF of the document(s) to an email address free of charge. The faxing function will send documents to local or toll-free 800 numbers.
Faculty or their student aides may copy course-related material on the copy machine or print from the microform readers, and then have their departments charged for the costs. A debit card system is available for academic departments, administrative offices, and clubs. The debit card is obtained from the Secretary to the Director of the Library and is encoded with a dollar amount, which is charged to department budgets. Faculty, administrators, or staff requiring a key for the microform readers/printers or copy machine can obtain it from one of the circulation supervisors.
Interlibrary Loans
Books, journal articles and other print materials not owned by King's College may be requested on interlibrary loan by King's College students, faculty, administration and staff. Fees imposed by the lending library are automatically charged to the department of the requesting faculty or staff member or administrator.
Library Instruction
By faculty request, the instruction/reference librarians present formal group instruction sessions to King's students on the use of library resources. Such instruction is tailored to the meet the needs of students based on course requirements or projects assigned by the faculty. Faculty are urged to take advantage of this service which helps to further independent learning and develops the information literacy skills of students. Faculty can arrange for library instruction sessions by contacting the Reference Department at ext. 5641 at least one week or more in advance of the class. Please see Suggestions for Faculty When Requesting a Library Instruction Session for additional information. Read more about instruction services here.
Reference
The Instruction/Reference Desk is located to the left of the Jackson Street entrance. Librarians are available to assist patrons in the use of materials and electronic databases. Reference assistance is also available by appointment. See the Research Help page for more info.
Research Guides
Research Guides on a variety of subjects are available online. Hard copies of Study Guides are available in the Instruction/Reference Department for the use of students and faculty. The documentation styles ACS, APA, CBE, MLA and Turabian are popular. Other study guide titles include "How to Critically Analyze Information Resources," "Preparing Abstracts and Annotations" and "Distinguishing Scholarly From Non-Scholarly Periodicals."
Study Rooms
Group study rooms are located on the court level and second floor of the library for student use. These rooms, intended for group projects or study, are available on a first come, first served basis; no reservations are necessary.
Theft and Mutilation
The loss of books and periodicals from theft and mutilation undermines access to library materials. Permanent damage to a collection results from the loss of irreplaceable items. A person is guilty of library theft if he/she willingly conceals on their person or among their belongings any library material, including periodicals, and willfully or without authority removes the material from the library with the intention of converting it for his own use. (Section 3929.1 Pennsylvania Crimes Code)
Incidents involving mutilation of materials, such as tearing out pages or removing identifying labels, are immediately referred to the Student Affairs Office for disciplinary action.
