King’s Launches Accelerated Five-Year Strategic Communications Master’s Track for Undergraduate Students

King’s College launched a new 4+1 track that allows students to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications and Master of Arts in Strategic Communications in just five years.

The College’s mass communications undergraduate program offers practical and diverse training across multiple tracks based on a student’s career goals, including broadcast and social media, journalism, video game design, and visual and brand communications.

Now those students have access to an accelerated and more affordable track through the College’s 30-credit master’s program, which typically takes 21 months to complete. By starting the 4+1 track in their senior year, students would only need 12 months of additional study after finishing their bachelor’s degree to earn a master’s degree.

The master’s program is tailored to students from a variety of undergraduate programs who seek advancement in international and domestic business, government, nonprofits, education, fundraising, marketing, and other fields that rely on effective communications. The curriculum also includes courses on emerging digital media, global perspectives, executive communications, crisis management, and other topics.

Students will develop leadership skills and learn how to advise senior officials, engage critical internal and external stakeholders, deploy the latest in information technology, and develop brand-aware solutions that are sensitive to political, environmental, ethical, and social issues. As such, the master’s program is also beneficial for students coming from other undergraduate programs.

“In an age of global markets, e-commerce, and AI, the demand for professionals familiar with the latest communications strategy and technology has never been higher,” said Scott J. Weiland ’96, Ph.D., chair of the Mass Communications Department. “As communications roles across business, health care, government, and other sectors become more complex, a master’s degree is a great way to distinguish yourself in the job market, and our students now have the option to earn it in nearly half the required time.”
