September 26, 2017 - King’s College Professor of History Brian A. Pavlac will discuss fundamental problems of politics today in the light of the fictional troubles of the fantasy world created by George R. R. Martin in a free public lecture to be held from 12:00 to 12:50 p.m. Wednesday, October 11, in the Postupak Room, located on the first floor of the McGowan School of Business.  The McGowan School of Business is located at the corner of N. River and W. Union streets in Wilkes-Barre.

Titled “Game of Thrones and Contemporary Global Conflict,” the lecture will focus specifically on the kinds of choices available in politics and their possible social consequences.

Pavlac’s presentation is sponsored by the Public Policy and Social Research Institute at King’s as part of the Fifty Minutes in Focus series.  Fifty Minutes in Focus is a series of brief, focused, lunch-time discussions on significant current events.

Pavlac is the editor and co-writer of the recently published “Game of Thrones versus History: Written in Blood”.  The collection of essays brings the expertise of professional historians to reveal the historical connections and relations of various aspects of the books and television series.  He has also published scholarly articles on medieval politics and religion, and is the author of the textbook “A Concise Survey of Western Civilization: Supremacies and Diversities.”
