February 2, 2018 - Briana Button of Mountain Top has been named community outreach and social justice programs coordinator at King’s College. She will be responsible for individual and group volunteer efforts at King’s, as well as managing the social justice education programs, such as Hunger for Justice Week.

Button was part of a group of volunteers at Rice Elementary School which provides healthier meals and snacks to students in need during weekends or school breaks as part of the school’s backpack program. She collected donations, hosted monthly fundraisers, and distributed meals to students each week. In addition, Button and her family also participates in “Camp Asthmacadabra” at the YMCA Camp Kresge in White Haven. The camp hosts children ages 7-13 with asthma for a summer weekend experience, sponsored by the Max and Lorraine Foundation and the American Lung Association.

She earned her bachelor’s degree in education from Bloomsburg University. She is a Pennsylvania State Certified Teacher and has served as a substitute teacher in the Crestwood School District since 2014. She served as a kindergarten teacher from 2015-17 at Rice Elementary.

The Corporation for National and Community Service has named King's to the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for ten consecutive years. The Community Service Honor Roll is the highest federal recognition a school can achieve for its commitment to community service and civic engagement.
